All about Jay Trefethen

(well, I think I'll keep a few things secret...)

I am a (mostly) self taught artist, currently living in Fairlee, Vermont. I build furniture in a local woodshop during the week, and work on my artwork on my free time.

From 1998 to 2008, I ran Night Air Studios, a t-shirt airbrushing business. I'd travel around to fairs and festivals, airbrushing t-shirts on the spot with fabric paint for people. It was alot of fun, but I decided to close the business in 2008 to concentrate on my fine art and illustration.

I've had a number of illustrations published by small presses, including a spot illustration in Space & Time Magazine (but that was years ago,) the graphic novel Strange Things and the Children's Book The Legend of Casey Rock. I will be having another Children's Book coming out in the very near future, and hope to continue doing illustration work after that.

I usually go to Boskone in February, the annual sf convention held by the New England Science Fiction Association, of which I am a member, and my most recent works can often be seen the the convention art show.

My favorite mediums are pen and ink, gouache and oils. My favorite brands are Windsor & Newton for oils and gouache, and for inks, any ol' brand of india ink will do. Right now I'm using Doc. Martin's Bombay India Ink (which is really a liquid acrylic, but don't tell anyone, okay?)

I also find acrylics useful paints to keep on stock, and for those I use Liquitex Soft Body Acrylics.

All digital graphics and image editing are done in CorelDraw Graphics Suite.
